About the Opportunity

Metro-Can Construction currently has an opportunity for an enthusiastic Accountant to join our team on a full-time basis at our head office in Surrey, BC.

As our new Accountant, you will be involved with preparing financial reports and statements, bank reconciliations, and conducting cyclical audits. More specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Setting up new companies and managing corporate filing requirements and business licenses
  • Managing GST account remittances
  • Processing payroll and overseeing the benefit program
  • Managing CRA requirements for contractors (Contract Payments)
  • Managing cash flow and forecasts, including posting and processing accounts payables and receivables 
  • Managing the month end, quarter end, and year-end accounting process
  • Preparing and posting journal entries
  • Managing WCB filing requirements
  • Managing employer health tax program payments and remittance
  • Performing monthly audits of entries/accounts
  • Reconciling ledgers monthly
  • Assisting in completing monthly internal and annual external audits
  • Performing Bank reconciliations
  • Managing the set-up, maintenance, and closing of corporate bank accounts

More About You  

In order to qualify for this role, you will need a minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, along with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field. Working towards a CPA designation will be considered an asset. In addition, a strong business acumen and fluency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) is required.

As our ideal candidate, you’ll have strong verbal and written communication skills and possess excellent interpersonal skills. You have a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, coupled with the ability to adapt and focus under pressure to adjust to changing priorities and meet deadlines. You have experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger accounting, and are familiar with managing intercompany transactions for large organizations with many entities. Likewise, you have excellent problem-solving skills, are a team player who supports others, collaborates well, and who has the ability to maintain confidentiality.
